MGM Grand Spa

To get to the spa, you head toward the convention center, through the Studio Walk, an assortment of shops, including Bernini, Watch Boutique and the CBS Television City, where you can find some of your favorite TV show merchandise. Once you reach the spa you’ll find 29,000 square feet of spa, salon and gym. As you enter the spa you’ll pass through the golden gates. The state-of-the-art fitness area has free weights (as a lot of weight-lifters visit here, I am told), Life fitness equipment and Technogym treadmills. There is the Cristophe salon, with lots of windows for your gazing pleasure…and speak about gazing, there are televisions above so you can watch TV while getting your hair washed!

You’ll find full-length lockers and some smaller lockers, chairs in the vanity area, so you can sit down and primp after your spa treatments. There is a hot Jacuzzi, dry sauna, steam and eucalyptus room. In the lounge, you’ll find a big screen TV, and in the quiet relaxation lounge, there are many chasse lounges to soak up the quiet.

There are 28 treatment rooms, of which there are private nail care rooms, with cushy chairs. You are given a choice of MP3 music to download for your own personal listening pleasure, the lights are turned off and candles are lit, for more ambience. The only other light in the room is directly on your feet, so the pedicure is done to perfection.

The dreaming ritual, one of their signature treatments is performed in one of the private spa suites with Aboriginal music playing softly in the background. Massage, hair mask and hand and foot treatments are woven into this experience designed to rejuvenate body, mind and soul, from head to toe and outside in. This exclusive two-hour treatment, is only available in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Spa, which incorporates Australian Aboriginal massage techniques. The Australian Aborigines have a long history of massage from the time a child is born and using the earth’s natural resources to generate individual health and balance.

While the guest’s eyes are closed, an incense-smudging ceremony is performed so as to ground the body and close out the rest of the world. This is followed by a warm foot soak that includes aromatic herbs, a pressure-point foot massage and an aromatic foot mask that is meant to eliminate tension from the bottom up.

The indulgence continues with an exhilarating body exfoliation, body mask with pure Australian mud, and a penetrating mud scalp treatment. This complete body rejuvenation simultaneously cleanses and delivers essential nutrients to the skin. While the body is being enriched in the Mapi body mud, guests experience mask and massage techniques on their scalp. Following this invigorating treatment, guests rinse off in the private spa suite’s large, open granite shower with special side-mounted shower jets.

Next, guests choose from a selection of rich Australian oils, formulated to purify, relax or detoxify and then surrender to a soothing Australian Aboriginal massage. This full-body massage ensures deep and total relaxation and a complete re-harmonization of body and soul. At the end of a soothing two hours, guests sip on a hot cup of lemon myrtle tea, draped in a plush robe and relaxing on a comfortable lounge chair in their private spa suite, to help bring them back into the present.

“Our guests experience such a deep state of relaxation with ‘The Dreaming Ritual’ that they are speechless when they leave us,” said Rachel Knapp, director of recreational services. “We are fortunate to have discovered this beautiful tribal experience so that we can share it with our guests.”

Utilizing potent Australian flora, earth, sea minerals and plants with an emphasis on purity and quality together with this holistic treatment, ensures maximum therapeutic benefits. All of the products used are derived from elements grown on organic plantations in Australia and combined with pure botanicals and essential oils.

MGM Spa is open to the public Monday through Thursday; hotel guests only Friday through Sunday.
